David Granström is a composer and musician from Umeå, a town located in the northern part of Sweden. He grew up playing guitar in a metal band, and within this context he started to compose music that eventually evolved into solo projects, having access to studio facilities adjacent to the rehearsal space. Aesthetically he is drawn to the darker and more melancholic styles of music and art. His musical work is characterized by harmonic simplicity and spatiotextural complexity, employing sounds of both synthetic and acoustic origin. His composition practice moves between algorithmic composition and instrumental improvisation, using the guitar as the focal point. In 2014, he received a Master’s degree in Composition of Electronic Music from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
